Answer should note that there is a disproportionate fear of crime in the United States. Answer may indicate that in general, females are more fearful than males, although males are more likely to be victimized. There are also difference by income and age. Fear of terrorism specifically increased following 9/11, even though this was not the first case on terrorism in the United States. The disproportionate fear of crime may be influenced by individual assessments and the media.
