Why have synthetic pesticides not consistently reduced U.S. crop losses to pests?

What will be an ideal response?

This is largely because of genetic resistance and loss of many natural predators. Also, scientists have concluded that crop losses increased between 1942 and 1997 despite the large increase in synthetic pesticide use. Additionally, the environmental, health, and social damages from pesticides in the United States are five to ten times the cost of pesticides. Finally, alternative pest management could cut the use of synthetic pesticides without reducing crop yields.
