The early days of IQ tests contained many misconceptions and abuses. Describe some of the errors and misuses of IQ tests during the early 1900s.

The first misconception would probably be that Binet's test was created to measure intelligence. Binet was hired by the French government to develop a test that would identify children who were lagging behind where they should be in school. The Army Alpha test had two areas of concerns: the test items and the testing conditions. The test used examples that many recruits were not familiar with, and many times the tests were given in crowded, noisy environments. Probably the worst misuse concerns the test created by Goddard for immigrants. The test was in English, and many items dealt with American culture. It was, unfortunately, a great example of cultural bias.
