Discuss the kinds of effects that subliminal presentation of stimuli have in the laboratory and what the implications are for real-world applications such as subliminal advertising

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: Evidence from strictly controlled laboratory experiments shows that attitudes can indeed be subject to some subliminal influence. For example, researchers found that a subliminal presentation of the name "Lipton Ice" affected participants' choice of a beverage, if they were already thirsty. Despite the evidence of subliminal effects, we shouldn't be worried about advertisers being able to use these in the real world for two reasons: (1) the effects occur only under highly controlled conditions which are unlikely to be replicated in the real world, and (2) the effects shown are only subtle influences on neutral stimuli; there is no evidence that subliminal messages ever override people's conscious wishes and desires.

years due to severe headaches, chest and back pains, and double vision. Sebastian also experiences severe stomachaches and nausea, and vomits several days a week. Sebastian stopped dating after his freshman year of high school because he was embarrassed by his symptoms, and because his constant discomfort had reduced his sexual interest in girls. Sebastian thought that these symptoms were a result of a football injury that happened during his freshmen year, but the symptoms have continued and worsened even after he quit the team. Doctors have thoroughly examined Sebastian and cannot find a physical cause for his many physical symptoms. Thus, Sebastian may have: a. Somatization disorder b. Conversion disorder c.
