In the course of a robbery investigation, investigators should take several steps to have a positive outcome in the case. Name and discuss these three areas as identified by the author
What will be an ideal response?
Interview Victims and Witnesses: Any and all witnesses, including the victim, need to be quickly identified, separated, and interviewed to discover the details of the robbery and the robbery suspect(s). If the victims are in a physical and/or mental condition to be interviewed, they should be taken to a calm, secure area and interviewed immediately. Obtain a Physical Description of the Suspect(s): As soon as possible, the preliminary investigation should attempt to obtain a physical description of the suspect(s). Surveillance photos or other security imaging devices may provide an exact image of the robbery and the suspect(s). The victim or other eyewitnesses can make positive identifications of the suspect(s) in photo images, but only after verbal descriptions are obtained during the interview. Canvass the Crime Scene Vicinity: After issuing a bulletin to patrol units that provides a general description of the suspect, the general vicinity in and around the robbery scene should be canvassed. In addition, flyers containing the suspect photo and physical description, brief information about the robbery, and contact information for the investigator should be posted and distributed around the crime scene area.
