What is "motion picture language?" How does it function?
What will be an ideal response?
Motion picture language (or film language or screen grammar) is the "language of images" that stems from the meanings that we derive from moving images. These meanings are generated by the visual elements of shots, their juxtaposition into sequences, the use of transitions, animated frames, and visual effects, and the sound that accompanies these images.
When viewers see a series of images on the screen, they understand these images through the interpretation of how the images work individually and in sequences. The ideas that are communicated to the viewer are expressed through the combination of visuals and sound that we know as motion pictures.
