Describe the difference between a box-end wrench and an open-end wrench. Discuss the advantages of each type of wrench and how it is used in collision repair.
What will be an ideal response?
Box-end wrenches have closed ends that surround the bolt head or nut for better holding power. More force can be applied without slipping or rounding off the nut or bolt head. They are available in 6, 8, or 12 contact points. A 6 point is strongest because it completely surrounds the hex nut and applies force to all six sides and points. The handle
of a box-end wrench may be offset to more easily reach fasteners that are in confined areas. The main disadvantage of a box-end wrench is that there must be clearance for the end to go over the top of the nut or bolt head.
