What will be your next steps in A.P.'s care?

What will be an ideal response?

• Use a bright light and magnifying glass to evaluate the location and degree of head lice and nits
(eggs) along the hair shaft, looking very closely at the scalp line.
• Contact A.P.'s parents and inform them of your findings. A.P. will need to leave the school at this
time for treatment.
• A.P. will need to be treated with a pediculicide shampoo, such as permethrin 1% cream rinse
(Nix), which kills adult live lice and but does not kill unhatched eggs. It may continue to kill newly
hatched lice for several days after treatment. Another treatment will be needed in 7 to 9 days to kill
any newly hatched lice before new eggs are produced.
