Briefly describe the events that took place between James ("Whitey") Bulger and his FBI case agent, John Connelly, beginning in 1994
What will be an ideal response?
In 1994, Bulger was tipped off by his FBI case agent, John Connelly, that he and Flemmi were about to be indicted for racketeering and extortion. In 1995, Flemmi was arrested and Whitey became a fugitive. In 2002, Connelly received a 10-year sentence for racketeering—for essentially becoming part of Whitey Bulger's organization. In 2008, he was convicted of second degree murder for warning Bulger that someone was going to implicate him in a murder—"someone's" body was subsequently found in the trunk of a car parked at Miami International Airport. Connelly's FBI supervisor admitted to taking bribes from Bulger and Flemmi but was granted immunity in exchange for cooperating with the government. While an informant, Bulger reputedly murdered eleven people. In 2011, he was apprehended by the FBI in Los Angeles.
