What was the housing meltdown? Who was responsible for the housing meltdown? Come up with a plan to help the government prevent another housing meltdown.

What will be an ideal response?

• The mortgagors got into deep financial trouble, as did Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac which were taken over by the U.S. Treasury Department in 2008 and propped up with billions of federal dollars to avert an even greater housing meltdown and financial crisis in the United States. Throughout the years, the federal government’s involvement in housing has been criticized on several fronts. Some critics believe that federal housing aid, which is supposed to provide decent housing for the poor, has done a better job of providing housing for more affluent people. The massive foreclosures that took place as people defaulted on their mortgages near the end of the twentieth century were a foreshadowing of an even larger housing meltdown in the 2000s.
