Your 16-year-old nephew wants to get a job asa waiter because he heard they make great
money and he is saving for a car. He has always gotten good grades in school and found it quite
easy.
He wants to work every day after school and every weekend. He has asked your advice on
work. What would you tell him?
What will be an ideal response?
I might suggest that he find a field to work in that might help him decide on a career (i.e. a
clerk in a law office or a tech at a veterinarian's office). I would suggest that he think of how waiting
on tables might help his future career aspirations. I would suggest that he ask himself, "What skills
will I learn from this job?" Also I would tell him thathe should limit his work to weekends so it does
not interfere with school or cause his grades to fall.
