Thomas Edison was known for working long hours and demanding the same from his coworkers. He often would investigate multiple materials, e.g., fi laments for the light bulb, before fi nding the optimum one. His company did not always have the initial patent, as was the case with the light bulb, but built on promising patent ideas of others, writing around the initial patent. His business acumen relates to his undertaking projects that had commercial possibilities. He did not pursue ideas he could not commercialize.
