Describe safe practices that should be done to minimize occupational exposure to radiation during radiopharmaceutical procedures
What will be an ideal response?
ANSWER:
Workers handling radioactive materials must use shielding (gloves, aprons, face shields), maximize distance to source, and limit time of exposure. Containers should also be held using tongs or tweezers to maximize distance of source to worker. Finger dosimeters should be worn to monitor exposure. All materials must be stored separately from food and drink and in a separate locked room. Care should be taken to prevent exposure through cuts, including from glassware, and from patients excreting radioactive materials. Workers must also prevent contamination of the patient environment from radioactive materials.
