It has been hypothesized that, if the sun disappeared, all life would end. Other than the obvious drop in temperature, why would humans probably die if the sun suddenly stopped shining?

Plants provide us with both the oxygen we need for breathing and the energy we need to survive. Plants harvest the energy of the sun and produce sugars that we can eat in order to gain energy.
