A prison gang is considered a security threat group when it meets certain criteria. Identify these criteria.
What will be an ideal response?
Prison and street affiliation is based on race, ethnicity, geography, ideology, or other similar factors. Members seek protection from other gang members inside and outside the prison, as well as insulation from law enforcement detection. Members will mutually take care of one another’s family members, at least minimally, while the member is locked up. Lastly, the group’s mission integrates an economic objective and uses some form of illicit industry to fulfill the economic necessities to carry forward other stated objectives. The use or threat of violence is a common tool in meeting these objectives.
