Of these countries, Afghanistan is the largest producer of opium in the world. Therefore, it has a strong influence on the access and usage in Iran. There are constant battles at the borders regarding drug smuggling or drug trafficking. Iran faces one of the world’s most serious opiate addiction problems with over 1.2 million users addicted.
