Explain the female athlete triad

The female athlete triad occurs when a female exercises excessively while consuming too few calories in pursuit of a low weight or body size. The three interrelated conditions that make up the triad are: disordered eating, menstrual dysfunction, and premature osteoporosis. Any female whose menstrual cycles are more than 35 days apart or who misses three menstrual cycles should be evaluated by a physician.
