Respond to the statement, "Dying is a lonely business, a journey each person must complete alone." Should you leave the patient to die alone? Describe how you should care for the dying patient.
What will be an ideal response?
The nursing assistant should provide the care that the patient requires. Provide privacy for the patient, but do not neglect to meet his needs. Be supportive to the dying patient and family and do not intrude on their privacy. They should know, however, that you are available if they need you, and you should check on them often. The patient should receive the same physical and emotional care as if he were expected to recover.
