Explain the philosophy behind the brutalization effect

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: Some studies show that homicide actually increases after executions occur. This is called the brutalization effect. The argument here is that executions desensitize the public to the immorality of killing and thus increase the likelihood that some people will decide to kill. Executions may also increase homicide as a sort of imitation.
