Explain the concepts of social systems and communication channels in relation to diffusion

Social systems and communication channels are two other important concepts related to diffusion. Together, they form an environmental context for diffusion. Social systems are groups of people defined by a common goal, characteristic, or boundary. Innovations move through social systems. Communication channels are the routes, related to both distance and direction, through which information is shared. Adoption of healthy behaviors by populations, not by singular neighborhoods or classrooms, produces substitutive changes in health status. To achieve higher rates of adoption, the innovation needs to spread through multiple network clusters and social systems. Further, the higher the rates of adoption, the more likely individual behaviors are to be maintained. There comes a point at which so many people have adopted the behavior (a critical mass) that future behavior adoption is self-sustaining. In the popular book The Tipping Point (2002), author Malcolm Gladwell refers to this point of critical mass as the tipping point.?
