Risk factors for colorectal cancer include age 50 or older, history of polyps, family history of polyps and/or colorectal cancer, a history of ulcerative colitis, and a diet high in fat and low in fiber. Prognosis is very good if the cancer is caught in the early stages. Signs and symptoms include a change in bowel habits, weight loss, anemia, obstruction, guaiac-positive stools, mucus in stools, and abdominal or rectal pain.
