Assume that you are the parent of a child between the ages of 8 and 11. Based on the reading and research presented in the text, what kinds of rules, if any, would you set around TV watching and internet usage for your child?
What will be an ideal response?
Educational programming could be allowed, but parents need to realize that children may not take interest in it. Aggressive TV and video games need to be monitored or avoided all together as there is plenty of correlational evidence that viewing aggression increases aggressive behavior in both boys and girls who take interest in this kind of programming. Children tend to use the internet for play rather than homework or education, so use of the internet needs to be monitored.
