Describe the intellectual, academic, and behavioral/emotional characteristics of students with ADHD
What will be an ideal response?
As with other disabilities, there is great diversity among people with ADHD. A broad range of IQ scores has been reported, but most seem to fall in the low-average range of scores. And, while most students with ADHD have typical intelligence, more have lower standardized achievement scores in math and reading, they are more likely to experience grade retention, and less likely to graduate from high school than their peers. They often have problems associated with memory, motivation, and goal-directed behavior. In addition to this, they have more behavioral, social, and emotional challenges than their peers without ADHD. Many are identified as having oppositional defiant disorder and as experiencing peer rejection, probably due to problems in perceiving social cues and difficulty interpreting and processing emotions.
