Summarize the structured interview as a means of assessing behavior type and explain the behavior continuum.
What will be an ideal response?
The structured interview is the main assessment tool used to determine behavioral type. During the interview, a person is asked to reply to several questions that describe Type A and Type B behavior patterns. The interviewer notes not only the responses to the questions but also the individual's mental, emotional, and physical behaviors as he or she replies to each question.Based on the answers and the associated behaviors, the interviewer rates the person along a continuum, ranging from Type A to Type B. Along this continuum, behavioral patterns are classified into five categories: A-1, A-2, X (a mix of Type A and Type B), B-3, and B-4.The Type A-1 person exhibits all Type A characteristics, and the B-4 person shows a relative absence of Type A behaviors. The Type A-2 individual does not exhibit a complete Type A pattern, and the Type B-3 individual exhibits only a few Type A characteristics.
