One of your college friends who is an athlete tells you that he is thinking about using anabolic steroids in order to "bulk up" his muscle growth and improve his athletic performance

After reading the section on the endocrine system, what would you tell him regarding the effectiveness and side effects of using steroids?
What will be an ideal response

Answer will include that almost all major sports organizations ban the use of anabolic steroids. In addition, there is disagreement about whether steroids actually can improve athletic performance. However, it is widely accepted that anabolic steroids may cause serious side effects. Problems include voice deepening or baldness in women and shrinkage of the testicles, sexual impotence, and breast enlargement in men. Dangerous increases in hostility and aggression ("roid rage") have also been linked to steroid use. Young adolescents are also at increased risk for heart attack, stroke, liver damage, and stunted growth.
