What will be an ideal response?
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was tasked with the collection and publishing of crime statistics within a Uniform Crime Reports system (UCR). Under this system, data on a broad range of violent and property crimes known to the police are reported through the participation of over 17,000 law enforcement agencies (Federal Bureau of Investigation). The FBI's UCR program collects information on Part I offenses (murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, auto theft, and arson) and for Part II offenses (forgery, fraud, embezzlement, vandalism, weapons violations, sex offenses, drug and alcohol abuse violations, gambling, vagrancy, curfew violations, and runaways). The UCR represents the first national collection of crime data.
