Briefly describe some reasons for racial "self-segregation" in adolescence

What will be an ideal response?

While there is racial and ethnic integration during childhood, by mid-to-late adolescence segregation is substantial because minority students actively seek support from others who share their minority status, which helps them affirm their identity. Different racial and ethnic groups are segregated in the classroom due to their level of academic success, and academic achievement may lead to segregation. Majority group students may be in classes with few minority group students due to "tracking" based on academic achievement. Prejudice is also a factor both perceived and real.
