Compare and contrast reading development in math with other forms of reading

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: Math presents special challenges in reading. A great deal of material in math texts is presented in numbers and mathematical symbols. Students need ample opportunities to translate numbers and symbols into words. The order of information presented in math texts also differs. Typically the details appear first, with the main idea presented last. Another difference is while students read math texts, they must attend to visual, verbal, and mathematical aspects. As students read math texts, they both comprehend and solve problems.
