Self-efficacy is a person's belief about his or her chances of successfully accomplishing a specific task. Self-efficacy is relatively flexible and can be enhanced. Of the sources of self-efficacy beliefs, prior experience takes the first position as the most potent of the four sources. Other sources of self-efficacy beliefs are behavior models, persuasion from others, and physical and emotional factors. Managers can influence a subordinate's self-efficacy at work, as described in Table 3.5, through:
