List three differences between producing plants using classical breeding techniques and rDNA techniques

What will be an ideal response?

• The amount of genetic information modified with the rDNA approach is small, one
or a few genes as compared to the classical breeding approach where thousands of
genes in the organism are modified.
• The rDNA approach can be precisely controlled. For example, if a change in seed
characteristics is desired, a gene can be linked to regulatory signals that result in
expression only in the seed or even in a specific compartment of the seed, which is
difficult to achieve with classical breeding.
• rDNA approaches can utilize genetic material from any living organism, which
permits DNA from bacterial or animal sources to be introduced into plants. When
using classical breeding approaches, crosses can only be accomplished between
closely related species.
