Define the theory of attraction and give examples for three of the major contributing factors.
What will be an ideal response?
The ideal answer should include:
- Attraction theory holds that people form relationships on the basis of attraction. People are no doubt drawn, or attracted, to some people and not attracted to others.
- The major factors include: physical attractiveness or personality, similarity, socioeconomic and educational status, proximity, reinforcement, and reciprocity of liking.
- Students' example will vary, such as workplace romance related to proximity or a benefactor relationship where reinforcement exists in the form of gifts.
