What is stop and frisk? When should it be used?
What will be an ideal response?
The U.S. Supreme Court gave the police the authority to stop and frisk suspicious persons in Terry v. Ohio. Essentially, when a police officer questions a suspicious person, the officer has the right to pat that person down for weapons if the officer has a reasonable suspicion that the person might be armed with a weapon. The Court determined that police officers should have the ability to protect themselves when confronting suspects.
