Discuss the causes and impact of the War of Chioggia?

What will be an ideal response?

For over one hundred years there was competition between the Italian city-states of Genoa and Venice that led to open warfare four times between 1258 and 1380. The fight was largely over who could control the Aegean Island and Black Sea trade, and the battles were primarily naval, as both were Maritime cities. In the War of Chioggia, the final conflict, Venice dominated the conflict with cutting edge technology and warfare tactics with the use of ship-mounted cannons. Venice was also successful in taking advantage of the internal conflicts within Genoa. Factionalism and political instability led Genoa to turn to the Maona, a private company that essentially acted as the government in the Aegean Islands. As a result of their strength, Venice won in 1380 and dominated Italian local and long-distance trade thereafter.
