Answer: Find out how the site handles cell phones, digital devices, and computer use and comply with protocol. Sites typically don't allow students or staff to use personal phones or devices during work hours. In some situations, cell phones may interfere with technical equipment. The cameras in cell phones can easily lead to HIPAA violations. Companies may prohibit employees, doctors, students, and vendors from taking photographs and videos of anything or anyone inside the facility or even outdoors on the property. Keep in mind that computers in health care facilities have strict security requirements. Unauthorized use can lead to disciplinary action. Never log on to a computer at your site without getting permission first. Social media really has no place during your practicum. If you use social media inappropriately your practicum could be quickly terminated.
