As the anaesthetic nurse, how will you prepare for the arrival of Mr Hooper?

You are working as anaesthetic nurse and note that the first patient on the list is Mr Hooper, 70 years old, who is undergoing a laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
What will be an ideal response?

Answer:
Check the anaesthetic machine in accordance with ANZCA guidelines and local policy.
Ensure that the appropriate drugs are available in the trolley—these will include induction medications, muscle relaxants and sedation. Enquire of the anaesthetist which narcotic they require and obtain that from the dangerous drug cupboard following protocol for managing narcotic medication.
Prepare the IV lines in accordance with the anaesthetic preference and labelling guidelines. Mr Hooper will require venous access to administer medication and provide IV fluids intraoperatively.
Prepare the airway management equipment and suction, including endotracheal tube (ETT), laryngoscope, syringe for inflating ETT cuff, mask and Guedal airway. Until Mr Hooper arrives you will not know which size airway equipment will be required, so a range of sizes for an adult male should be prepared
