Discuss your role in conducting studies of your counseling work.
What will be an ideal response?
?You are responsible for conducting research studies of your own counseling work. You can begin to develop ways to measure client movement toward goals by using standardized tests. With these instruments you can compare your clients’ movement and growth against larger populations. Your course work in evaluation and measurement will help to prepare you for this kind of outcome research.
?You can also monitor your clients’ progress using the movement (or lack of it) toward established goals as measurable markers of growth. You may need to investigate some creative, innovative ways of approaching this kind of research, particularly when working with clients with multiple problems.
?When actual indicators of movement toward goals are elusive, secondary indicators may provide evidence of movement. Tracking drug use for one of your clients might be difficult, for example, but you might be able to monitor his ability to stay out of trouble, which would provide some relative indication of his use of drugs.
