Title IX, part of the Education Amendments of 1972, is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. The main objective of Title IX is to avoid the use of federal money to support sexually discriminating practices. Title IX was modeled on Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, and national origin. Title IX protects the rights of both males and females from prekindergarten through graduate school-in sports, financial aid, employment, counseling, and school regulations and policies.
