Review various methods to settle down a boisterous class of young children.
What will be an ideal response?
To lower children’s voice levels, whisper softly. If you are dealing with several small groups, move from group to group and speak in a soft, slow voice. Children will quiet down so that they can hear you. Also, to let children know how long they need to be quiet, you could tell them that they can shout and run around pretty soon when the class goes outside. In addition to using a soft voice, the lights can be dimmed and relaxing music can be played. When children begin to get quiet or settle down, let them know with a smile or nod that you appreciate how they are speaking or behaving. Doing this is more effective than calling attention to inappropriate behavior.
