What are the components of soil analysis?

What will be an ideal response?

The soil should be dried first and examined under a microscope using low-power. First the examiner will note the gross features of the soil, such as color and particle size. This alone can tell a great deal about a sample, and the examiner can compare the color to a collection of reference samples. If, for example, the sample taken from the suspects shoes and the sample taken from the crime scene are unalike in color they are not likely to have come from the same source. In general, in this type of examination, it is much easier to exclude samples. In other words, if the two samples are different, it is usually the case that they did not originate from the same source. On the other hand, if two samples are similar, more caution should be exercised before concluding that they are from the same source.
