Why is it too simplistic to state that men and women experience IPV at roughly the same rates?

What will be an ideal response?

This is a simplistic statement because it ignores the differences in the kinds of and extent of IPV experienced by men and women. While men and women may experience about the same amount of IPV, women are more likely to experience more severe forms of IPV, to sustain more serious injuries, and are more likely to be killed by an intimate partner. Additionally, women are more likely to be sexually assaulted by a partner and experience polyvictimization.
