A multicore processor contains several CPUs on the same chip. There are several types of multicore processors. There are the simple replicated?CPU multiprocessors (i.e., several CPUs sharing a common chip). There are now networks on a chip that link multiple processors by the type of topology found in traditional networks. There are GPUs with very large numbers of functional units dedicated to processing video images in a flowthrough pipeline mode.
