. What factors led to Charles Whitman’s shooting spree, and why are they pertinent?

What will be an ideal response?

Many factors could be considered in this case. Firstly, Whitman was an Eagle Scout and a Marine sharpshooter. The skills he gained via these two most certainly could have been contributing factors (e.g., survival techniques, weapons training). The brain tumor he had only heightened the likelihood that such an event could take place, as it apparently caused a change in his behavior. He called attention to the possibility in his suicide note. These are pertinent as collectively they speak to both the environmental and genetic contributions to his violent behavior.
