What disadvantages accompany the common practice of round robin reading?

What will be an ideal response?

In round robin reading, the reader is under intense pressure to read the text perfectly, because others often call attention to any deviation. This public correction may feel embarrassing to the reader, who will likely make more mistakes under pressure than when normally reading aloud. The process is unnatural. Since oral reading is much slower than silent reading, round robin reading may lead to undesired silent reading habits in those who follow along. The time children spend reading in round robin fashion takes time away from other more useful teaching and practice activities. Round robin reading may give children the impression that the main purpose of reading is saying all the words correctly. Some children do not pay attention to the halting oral reading they hear from some of their peers. Others skim ahead to their assigned paragraph to practice for their turns. Few recall what was read or realize that comprehension is of major importance.
