What is response latency? How might it be interpreted?
What will be an ideal response?
Response latency is the amount of time it takes someone to formulate a response to a
statement or question in a conversation. This silence may mean that you are thinking or
that you do not wish to engage in conversation. It may also be a sign of respect or
status, or an indication of anger or discomfort. You may also be so comfortable with
your conversational partner that conversation is not necessary (positive silence).
Response latency has also been studied as a possible indicator of deception.
