When would a steam boiler be preferable over a hot-water-type boiler?
What will be an ideal response?
When large amounts of heat need to be transferred, the boiler is used to produce steam. This is due to the fact that about 970 Btu/lb of heat can be added to water at 212?F and atmospheric pressure to change it into steam at the same temperature. This same amount of heat will be transferred to the air passing across a heating coil as the steam turns back into condensate.
