There are some mental and physical attributes that seem to make some people more effective than others at selling. Judgment-often called common sense, maturity, or intelligence-is essential for effective selling. Tact is also needed. Good salespeople have a positive attitude toward customers, products, services, and the firm.
Personal appearance is also important for success. Poor personal hygiene may lead to lost business. An observant manager should watch out for hygiene problems among the staff and, when necessary, counsel offending employees in private.
