Explain what areas of focus dominated early American reading and writing instruction
What will be an ideal response?
In early American reading instruction, one major focus was on the content of passages students read. In colonial times, most of the reading material was scriptural; patriotic selections became more popular after the country was established. There was heavy emphasis in both reading and writing on individual letters and words, and most reading in school was done orally.
