Clearly explain the relationship between the Second Law of Thermodynamics and the typical pyramid of biomass
What will be an ideal response
The second law of thermodynamics indicates that no energy transformation is 100% efficient, and in transformations there is always a net loss of energy. This idea is appropriately applied to energy transformations as energy is passed through the food chains of an ecosystem. As a result of the second law of thermodynamics, the amount of energy that is stored in lower trophic levels is higher than that which can possibly be transferred to higher trophic levels. This results in an ever-decreasing amount of energy contained with increasing trophic levels in an ecosystem.
