Why is the productivity poor in the deeper parts of the ocean?

What will be an ideal response?

ANSWER: In the deeper parts of the ocean, sunlight only influences the activities happening near the
surface since the sunlight does not penetrate deep into the water. In addition, many nutrients
sink to the bottom of the ocean. This impacts productivity greatly since both sunlight and
nutrients are necessary to improve the productivity.
