Explain dominance hierarchies and their relationship to peer groups

Peer groups quickly form dominance hierarchies, organized structures in which some children become leaders and some become followers. Dominance hierarchies may help facilitate completion of activities by the peer group and seem to serve adaptive social functions, such as controlling aggression.
